Jewelry appraisal fees are based on the complexity of the item(s) and the level of examination, research, and analysis required to produce a comprehensive appraisal report.
Fees are not based on a percentage of value and are determined independently of the jewelry’s appraised worth.
Per-Item Fees
For most standard, contemporary jewelry styles examined in our office, the fee for the first item typically ranges from $150 to $200, depending on the time required.
For collections, additional items may be appraised at a reduced rate, starting as low as $50 per item, depending on the size and composition of the collection.
In most cases, a fixed fee quote is provided once the jewelry is presented for review.
Hourly Rates
For assignments that require extensive research or specialized analysis, fees may be charged on an hourly basis.
Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $200 per hour, based on the scope of work.
Time is calculated based on actual hours devoted to examination, analysis, research, and report preparation.
Fee Estimates
Because each appraisal assignment is unique, fees are determined on a sliding scale related to complexity.
A general fee estimate can often be provided after a brief discussion of your goals and a general description of the item(s).
-
The time required depends on the number of items and the complexity of each piece.
The examination phase typically takes 15–45 minutes per item.
After the examination, analysis and market research are conducted.
The completed appraisal report is generally delivered within approximately one week.
Same-day service may be available upon request, subject to scheduling availability and an expedited service fee.
-
Not necessarily. In many cases, the examination can be completed while you wait, even for multiple items, so you do not need to leave your jewelry with us.
If additional time is required, or if you prefer, you may drop off your jewelry in the morning and pick it up later the same day.
When items are left with us, an intake form with photographs is completed to document and identify each piece.
About the Appraisal Process
Appraising a piece of jewelry is a detailed process that may take several hours and can include:
Professional cleaning
Metal and gemstone testing
Measuring and grading
Research and market analysis
Photography and documentation
While the physical examination requires possession of the jewelry, research, value reconciliation, photo editing, and report preparation are typically completed after the examination and do not require us to retain your jewelry.
Our goal is always to return your jewelry the same day or as quickly as possible. We do not keep items longer than necessary.
Security and Insurance
If your jewelry needs to remain with us for a short period, it is fully insured and stored in a high-security safe.
Jewelry is examined under a microscope, and unique identifying characteristics are documented to ensure proper identification. When appropriate, microscopic photographs may be included with your service documentation.
We take the care and security of your jewelry seriously—our reputation is never worth risking a single piece.
Expedited Service
Same-day service may be available upon request, depending on the assignment and scheduling.
